Takayasu's arteritis is an inflammatory and stenotic disease primarily affecting medium-
and large-sized arteries. It is prevalent mostly in young females in Asia, but is
being increasingly detected in Western Europe, North America, and Africa (

). The disorder is strongly suspected in patients with decreased or absent peripheral
pulses, blood pressure discrepancies, and arterial bruits. Diagnosis is confirmed
by arteriography and histopathology. Laboratory tests recommended in the latest reviews

) are limited to an unspecifically elevated erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and
a slightly lowered haemoglobin. Abnormal liver enzymes are not included. We report
