Prof. Francesco Paolo Russo graduated from Medical School at the University of Padua in 1997, where he also obtained the training in Gastroenterology and the PhD in Hepatological Science, respectively in 2002 and 2006. During his PhD, he has performed pioneering research at Imperial College London, regarding the contribution the bone marrow derived cells during liver fibrosis. Since December 2006 he is Assistant Professor of Gastroenterology at the University of Padua. He is now involved in basic and clinical research in liver transplant-related issues, chronic liver disease, liver regeneration and fibrosis. Prof. Russo has already obtained numerous prestigious award from the main Scientific Societies involved in Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Transplantation. In particular, in 1999 he received a Novartis Study Grant from the European Society of Organ Transplantation for visiting  the Institute of Experimental Surgery in Munich. In 2003 and 2004 he received the prestigious Sheila Sherlock Fellowship from the European Association Study of the Liver for visiting the Section of Hepatology at Imperial College London. In November 2009, Prof Russo was awarded Rising Star in Gastroenterology, nominated during the United European Gastroenterology Week.
